Humidifiers can be a way to increase the humidity when it falls below 35%, but you want to ensure it does not harm your indoor air quality.

When dry, wintry air rolls into town, your family’s sniffles and coughs can quickly send you into a frenzy to find the best humidifiers for bedrooms for some overnight relief. Humidifiers help release moisture back into the air, and this can alleviate some of the skin, nose, and throat irritation that comes from dryness.

“The ideal humidity level in a home should be between 35% and 50%,” explains Michael Rubino, mold remediator, mold and air quality expert, and founder at HomeCleanse. “Too high or too low humidity indoors can cause wellness issues and problems with the home's health, like mold growth and structural issues.”

You can test your home’s humidity levels with a hygrometer, and this can be an important first step before choosing a humidifier. From there, Rubino recommends finding a humidifier that you can place in the room away from soft or porous materials, such as a closet full of clothes or curtains. Otherwise, the moist mist from the humidifier could contribute to microbial growth.
